About Us

At SHE, our mission is to create a nurturing and inclusive community where women feel seen, heard, and empowered. We strive to eliminate feelings of isolation by fostering genuine connection and offering a space that cultivates a sense of belonging. Through connective experiences and dialogue, we aim to inspire and uplift every woman, promoting self-confidence and resilience.

Our Story

We had both boarded the Ortelius, an expedition ship headed to Antarctica, as solo female travelers. Quickly, we connected over our love for travel, adventure, and red wine. Across the continental U.S. from one another, our connection only grew as we met up to hike mountains, frolic through city streets, and deeply understand one another. We both believe in the power of SHE and could not be more excited for our biggest climb yet.

We believe that everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, and empowered. Our goal is to help you embrace your unique qualities, define your own path, and make a difference in the world.

Makayla Greathouse

Phoenix, Arizona

I am Makayla — I have traveled to all seven continents. I have published a book. I have lived on the road in a beat up van, the mountains, my backyard. I have two dogs I adore. I have a career I am proud of. I teach yoga and thrive on being outdoors, reconnecting with the essence of what humans are.

So many realities can be true in a lifetime and our stories aren't painted by only our triumphs. I have struggled with self-harm. I have fit into molds I didn’t want to live in. I have sobbed on the floor begging out loud for a different life. I have been berated, belittled, and dismissed.

I aim to color outside of the lines living a life that's lived authentically, inclusively and free. I choose to lay under the stars, dance in the rain, and sing loudly. When we stop playing, when we start judging, and when we don’t let others show up as their true selves, we lose a bit of life’s purpose. Life is a journey, and one I have lost myself in multiple times. Every day, though, I wake up and manifest joy, deep connection, and adventure.

I believe so strongly in the depth of humans and the power and capability of those we surround ourselves with, and the communities we build, being so much of how we can show up. My community has saved my life. Through curiosity, vulnerability, and compassion, I aim to build safe spaces where authenticity thrives and the soul finds solace.

Elizabeth Mateer

Seattle, Washington

I'm Elizabeth—a poet, traveler, and former professional dancer from New York, currently working as a licensed therapist and finishing my PhD in clinical psychology with a focus on neuropsychology. I love brains and the impossible pursuit of understanding how they work gets me excited every day.

My journey has taken me to all seven continents; I’ve found myself digging a hole in the snow to sleep in Antarctica and backpacking through a monsoon in Nepal. I can’t get enough of immersing myself in diverse cultures and landscapes while learning how people live around the world. Beyond my travels, I cherish authentic friendships with incredible people I’ve met along the way who inspire me every day.

I have experienced devastating grief, my personal heaviest burden. What I’ve learned is that it never gets lighter, I’ve just gotten strong enough to carry it. While I find solace in adventure, my heart truly belongs to animals. Two cats share my home, bringing so much joy and companionship into my life.

In essence, I'm a seeker of beauty, connection, and understanding the depths of the human experience in its highest and lowest forms, blending my passions for exploration, creativity, and curiosity into a life filled with purpose and adventure.
